Young @ heart
September 22nd, 2009
I joined a tweetup last Saturday in Rotterdam, where six of us had dinner at a restaurant called Bazar, and later 3 others joined us for a concert of Young at Heart, an American choir of elderly people. In fact, the average age of that choir is 80. They sang solo’s, mostly pop songs from the last century, but also some modern songs (like one from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers). Expectations were high, and the choir didn’t deliver on all of it. The show somehow lacked energy and pace—even though it’s obvious nobody would be dancing like a monkey. It just didn’t grab me. For me, the best thing about the evening was probably sitting outside Floor watching the Schouwburgplein steeped in twilight (see picture), and the dinner we had at Bazar. The entrance to the lower levels in that place was filled with Eastern lamps with meticulous designs, some of them as big as a bookcase.
The day before Kirsten celebrated her homecoming after spending time in America (and on holidays), and it was nice to see both Kirsten and Remco again. Some of us stayed over, and the three of us went to see the Bloemencorso in Roelofarendsveen the day after. Imagine that: a whole small village out on the street drinking beer at 11am, and watching cars go by, adorned with flowers (but not a lot) and big creations of space shuttles, a car wash, a skating-ring, a castle… no less than five bands took part in the parade, as well as two soccer clubs and three schools.
Something that made me feel young again this weekend was the release of Rammstein’s new single: Pussy. You can watch the video here!
