Grandmother’s Funeral
January 24th, 2009
We buried my grandmother today. She was 93 years old. A widow for 10 years.
Of all the feelings and thoughts I have about her death I only want to tell you that she knew it was important to yourself to be kind to and interested in others. That is what gave meaning to Oma’s life after the death of my grandfather 10 years ago in particular, but also throughout the rest of her life. May she rest in peace with Opa, with whom she now shares her final resting place. I hope I can be as generous, kind, and interested to my friends and family as she always was.
When walking from the graveyard back to the church, I could hear her contented, joyous and almost indulgent laugh in my head, and it was a great comfort.
My name is Marco Hokke. My blog is about the things that interest me and things I might forget if I would not blog them.
