Goodbye, Capgemini
April 21st, 2009
Today was the day I said goodbye to all of my colleagues at Capgemini, some of whom I have been working with for three years. I treated the project team I’ve been a member of since May 2006 to cake, and had my last lunch at the Capgemini canteen. Soup, bread, and milk—the usual. I am leaving CG on April 30th.
My manager and me had our goodbyes too. Neither of us cares too much about decorum, so instead of finding an empty room to sit in, we decided to stand outside in the sun while talking. Leaving CG has nothing to do with either the organization, the prospects per se, or the working environment. It is simply a matter of choosing what best fits my needs and ambitions. I want more commitment, and a team/project/product combination that I know has a long lifespan. Also, I want to be a developer because that is what I am, and not because the market allows for me to be one.
It is still sad to leave CG, because it has given me the opportunity to realize my ambition: become a software developer. I went in as a tester in 2005, and am coming out as a developer in 2009. And it is good to find a home at the CAK in Den Haag, where I can be a developer and create helpful and useful additions to a generally helpful and useful application.
So, here’s to Capgemini: all the best! Goodbye!
