Domestic Urban Exploration

March 10th, 2009

Urban Exploration is a popular activity amongst photographers, where the custom is to break into abandoned buildings and take pictures of whatever you find inside. I’ve done this on a number of occasions, but last Monday I wanted to surprise Aleksandra with an opportunity to take pictures in an abandoned building for as long as we wanted. Without breaking into anything, and close to Leiden if at all possible.

I happen to know somebody who has the privilege of renting an out-of-order energy-plant in the middle of Leiden. She kindly lent us the key to the building, and Aleksandra and I went in for about two hours, taking pictures of hallways, rooms, and small objects lying around in what is now used as a theatre. We had a great time as there were howling winds, shattering rain, and weird noises coming from outside.

Here is one of the highlights of our photo-shoot. There are more pictures in the full article.
