Another encounter with (my) stupidity
January 19th, 2009
I locked myself out today. I went running right after work, and took the wrong set of keys with me. I was very lucky to get into the building when I came home as a friendly neighbour was just leaving. But I couldn’t get into my apartment. I normally have a set of keys hidden away but I’ve kept them inside since I came back from my holidays in Poland.
I rang the bell at a neighbour and they were friendly to help me get in touch with the owner company of the building. The owner’s offices were closed, however, and I had to redirect the call to the emergency department. They then sent a call to a locksmith who called me back after only 5 minutes. He showed up 15 minutes later.
He had to climb up his feeble and slippery ladder to get to my kitchen balcony at 10 meters above stone and hard pavement. He could get inside as I hadn’t locked the balcony door, and relieved me of the stress of getting to my 17.30 appointment. Certainly a cheaper solution than either forcing the lock or smashing in a window.
